New Pistons Used With Two Keystone Compression Rings

Usage:

3208 Turbocharged Truck Engines (2Z) Rated At 2600 rpm

Description of Change: New pistons with two compression rings instead of one are used on 3208 Turbocharged Truck Engines rated at 2600 rpm. Also, both compression rings are Keystone-type rings (both sides tapered). The oil ring did not change. Different flywheels and crankshaft dampers are used because of changes in the engine dynamic balance.

The new pistons and compression rings are needed to meet the exhaust emission particulate requirements for these turbocharged truck engines for the 1988 model year. New engine arrangement numbers are assigned to these engines for identification.

Adaptable To: The new pistons and rings are effective with 2Z50809 with the new engine arrangements listed in Chart A. The arrangement number is stamped on the engine data plate.

The new pistons (body assemblies), in complete sets, can be installed in the former engine arrangements with serial numbers 2Z1-Up. See Chart B. Also, the flywheel and damper must be replaced. See Chart C.

The new upper ring has one side marked "UP-1", and the new intermediate ring has one side marked "UP-2". The marked sides must be installed toward the head of the piston. If the new pistons are installed in the field, stamp the applicable new arrangement number on the engine data plate for future parts service requirements.
