Engine News SEBD9887, 05 August 2013, "A New Spark Plug Is Used in Certain G3500 Engines". The article was revised in order to correct the publication date and to add G3600 to the title. No other information was changed.

Description of Change: The new spark plug provides improved reliability and service life.

The new spark plug has an iridium alloy on the tip of the center electrode. The tip of the ground electrode has a platinum alloy.

Adaptable To: The new 301-6663 Spark Plug replaces the former 194-8518 Spark Plug in the above engines. The new 301-6663 Spark Plug is adaptable to the above engines back to first production.

The former 194-8518 Spark Plug is canceled.

Maintenance Recommendations

Perform the following maintenance for the 301-6663 Spark Plug according to the engine Operation and Maintenance manual Maintenance Interval Schedule. If deposits build-up in engines that use bio-gas, reduce the maintenance interval.

  • Inspect

  • Clean

  • Check the electrode gap. Adjust the gap, if necessary.

Never use a wire brush to clean the spark plug because the metallic bristles can leave deposits. Clean spark plug with glass beads.

Check the electrode gap with the 9U-7516 Spark Plug Gauge .

Electrode gap for the 301-6663 Spark Plug ... 0.29 ± 0.04 mm (0.011 ± 0.002 inch)

Before you install a spark plug, make sure that the spark plug is clean. Make sure that the gap is correct. Clean the seat for the spark plug with the 9U-7511 Spark Plug Seat Cleaner. When you install a spark plug, always install a new 9Y-6792 Spark Plug Gasket. Do not overtighten the spark plug.

Torque for the 301-6663 Spark Plug for G3500A, G3500B, and G3600 Engines ... 68 ± 4 N·m (50 ± 3 lb ft)
