Start By:

  1. Remove the engine oil pump.

  1. Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.

  2. Turn the fuel supply valve to the OFF position.


    NOTICE

    Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

    Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

    Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  3. Drain the oil from the engine into a suitable container for storage or for disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil and Filter - Change".

  4. Disconnect hose assemblies (1) and (2). Disconnect harness assembly (3).

  5. Use a suitable lifting device to support angle supports (5). Remove bolts (4) and remove angle supports (5). The approximate weight of the angle support is 238.0 kg (525.00 lb).

  6. Remove three bolts (6) from oil pump adapter (7).

  7. Remove heat shield (8) and attach Tooling (C) onto the engine.

  8. Remove bolts (9) on all sides of the oil pan (10).

  9. Use a suitable lifting device and raise the engine from engine oil pan (10). Remove gasket (11). The weight of the engine is approximately 11818 kg (26054 lb).

  10. Position the engine on Tooling (A).

  11. Attach Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device onto engine oil pan (10). The weight of engine oil pan (10) is approximately 958 kg (2108 lb).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install oil pan (10) in the reverse order of removal.

  2. Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.

  3. Turn the fuel supply valve to the OFF position.

End By:

  1. Install the engine oil pump.

Disassembly Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the engine oil screen.

  2. Remove the engine oil pan.

  1. Remove bolts (3) and the washers. Remove elbow (2) and the O-ring seal. Remove tube assembly (4) and the O-ring seals from engine oil pan (1).

  2. Remove bolts (5), (6), and (8), and the washers. Remove the O-ring seals. Remove engine oil screen housing (7).

Assembly Procedure

  1. Position engine oil screen housing (7). Install the new O-ring seals. Install the washers and bolts (8), (5), and (6).

  2. Install the new O-ring seals. Position tube assembly (4) in the engine oil pan (1). Install the new O-ring seal in elbow (2). Install the washers and bolts (3).

End By:

  1. Install the engine oil pan.

  2. Install the engine oil screen.
