Switch (Inching Pedal)
The switch signals the transmission ECM that the operator has fully depressed the inching pedal. The inching pedal is the left foot pedal that is located in front of the operator. The switch is located on the left side of the inching pedal behind the cover.
Position Sensor (Inching Pedal)
The position sensor signals the transmission ECM of the position of the inching pedal. The inching pedal is the left foot pedal that is located in front of the operator. The sensor is located on the left top side of the inching pedal behind the cover.
Speed Sensor (Transmission Input)
Illustration 1 | g02730917 |
(1) Speed Sensor for the Input to the Transmission |
Speed sensor (1) signals the transmission ECM of the speed of the input shaft of the transmission. The sensor is located on the top of the transmission.
Speed Sensors (Transmission Output)
Illustration 2 | g02730924 |
(2) Speed Sensors for the Output from the Transmission |
Speed sensors (2) signal the transmission ECM of the speeds of the output shaft of the transmission. The sensors are located on the front side of the transmission toward the middle.
Temperature Sensor (Hydraulic Oil)
Illustration 3 | g02730928 |
(3) Temperature Sensor for the Hydraulic Oil |
Temperature sensor (3) signals the transmission ECM of the hydraulic oil temperature. Temperature sensor (3) is located on the top of the transmission.
Pressure Sensor (Charge)
Illustration 4 | g02730929 |
(4) Pressure Sensor for the Transmission |
Pressure sensor (4) signals the transmission ECM of the hydraulic oil pressure of the transmission. Pressure sensor (4) is located on the left side of the transmission.
Switch (Auto Shift)
Auto shift switch (7) is located in the cab.
The autoshift function enables the transmission to automatically shift through speeds.
CAT Data Link
The CAT data link is located in the wire harness. The connector for the CAT data link is located in the cab.
The CAT data link is a serial communication bus that is used in order to communicate with the following components:
- Caterpillar electronic technician (ET)
- Other optional electronic control modules
CAN Data Link
The CAN data link is located in the wire harness. The connector for the CAN data link is located in the cab.
The CAN data link is a serial communication bus that is used in order to communicate with the following components:
- Transmission ECM
- Other optional electronic control modules
Transmission ECM
Illustration 5 | g02680617 |
(5) Transmission Electronic Control Module |
Transmission ECM (5) is located on the right rear side under the cab.
The transmission ECM controls the following components:
- Hydraulic control valves
- Transmission modulating valves
Modulating Valves (Transmission Clutch)
Illustration 6 | g02730935 |
(1) Modulating Valves for the Transmission Clutches |
Nine modulating valves (1) for the transmission clutches are located on the left side and the front of the transmission. Each valve has a designated letter, as shown. The letters have been cast into the transmission case. The designated letters are used to correlate the modulating valve (transmission) to the corresponding transmission clutch.
The modulating valves control the hydraulic flow of oil to the clutches in the transmission in order to engage the different gear ratios.
