TA19 M4WD Agricultural Transmission Caterpillar

General Information

Usage:

TA19-M4WD XAE

Introduction

The TA19 transmission provides 16 forward gears and 4 reverse gears.

There is nine individual clutch packs on four transmission shafts with five shafts in all. Each clutch pack is controlled by a corresponding modulating valve (transmission). The transmission electronic control module (ECM) controls the modulating valve. The modulating valve will modulate the oil pressure and flow in order to provide smooth shifting between gears.

The transmission hydraulic system has the following main components:

  • Sump

  • Charge pump

  • Relief valve (charge pressure)

  • Modulating valves (transmission)

  • Electronic controls

Sump

The sump provides oil for the transmission hydraulic system.

Charge Pump

The charge pump provides pressurized oil to the transmission hydraulic system. The oil flow from this pump is continuous and the pressure is constant after the engine is started.

Relief Valve (Charge Pressure)

The relief valve (charge pressure) controls the oil pressure to 2482.1 kPa (360 psi).

Modulating Valves (Transmission)

The transmission is equipped with nine modulating valves. The modulating valves are controlled by the use of electronics. Nine modulating valves provide oil to the transmission clutches. There are nine corresponding transmission clutches.

Electronic Controls

The transmission ECM controls the solenoids on the modulating valves (transmission).

Transmission Hydraulic System

The transmission hydraulic system provides a modulated flow of pressurized oil to the transmission. The transmission contains nine transmission clutches. The nine clutches are controlled by the nine corresponding modulating valves (transmission). The transmission provides the operator with 16 forward and 4 reverse gears.

The modulating valves (transmission) provide the following control functions:

  • Proportional control of pressure

  • Controls oil flow to clutch

Transmission Electrical System

The transmission electrical system provides controls for the transmission hydraulic system. The transmission electrical system includes switches, sensors, and control levers. The inputs signals are processed by the transmission electronic control module (ECM) which then energizes the appropriate solenoid.

The transmission electrical system contains the following components:

  • Transmission ECM

  • Control inputs

  • Solenoids

The transmission hydraulic system provides a modulated flow of pressurized oil to the transmission. The transmission contains nine transmission clutches. The nine clutches are controlled by the nine corresponding modulating valves (transmission). The transmission provides the operator with 16 forward and 4 reverse gears.
