Oil Filter and Base (Power Train) - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Remove housing (3), filter element (2), and O-ring seal (1).

  2. Remove bolts (4), base assembly (5), O-ring seals (6), and fittings (7).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install fittings (7). Tighten fittings (7) to a torque of 24 ± 2.5 N·m (18 ± 2 lb ft).

  2. Install O-ring seals (6), base assembly (5), and bolts (4). Tighten bolts (9) to a torque of 55 ± 10 N·m (41 ± 7 lb ft).

  3. Install O-ring seal (1), filter element (2), and housing (3). Tighten housing (3) to a torque of 55 ± 5 N·m (41 ± 4 lb ft).

    Note: Do not use an air wrench to tighten housing (3).
