Caterpillar provides many references in order to help the dealer understand what level of contamination control is required for parts, engines, and work areas. The following list of guidelines must be followed during each repair, rebuild, and/or overhaul. These guidelines help ensure that the engine will have the anticipated service life:
- Keep all parts clean from contaminants
- Inspect all incoming repair material for contaminants and defects
- Conduct proper storage and material handling of parts
- Follow proper contamination control processes during repair, rebuild, and/or overhaul
