3516C Locomotive Engine and Generator Set Caterpillar

Fuel System Primary Filter/Water Separator - Clean/Replace

Usage:

3516C PRC

  • Stop the engine.

  • Turn the start switch to the "OFF" position. Disconnect the battery.

  • Shut off the fuel tank supply valve to the engine.

  • Open the drain valve in order to drain any fuel from the filter case. Close the drain valve.

    ------ WARNING! ------

Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. To help prevent possible injury, turn the start switch off when changing fuel filters or water separator elements. Clean up fuel spills immediately.

    NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Cat Dealer Service Tool Catalog" or refer to Special Publication, PECJ0003, "Cat Shop Supplies and Tools Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

    NOTICE

Do not allow dirt to enter the fuel system. Thoroughly clean the area around a fuel system component that will be disconnected. Fit a suitable cover over disconnected fuel system component.
