New Planet Gears For Power Shift Transmissions And/Or Winches Have No Oil Grooves On the Faces{3176,5165}

All Power Shift Transmissions And Winches Made By Caterpillar

Description of Change: The planet gears used in power shift transmissions and winches made by Caterpillar have been changed. The new gears are made of steel of the quality used in bearings, and the oil grooves have been removed from the faces of the gears.

The better quality steel permits deeper case hardness in the gear bore. This gives the planet gear a longer service life.

Because the current thrust washers used with the planet gears have "pressed in" oil grooves, the grooves are not necessary on the gear face.

NOTICE

A new planet gear must not be used with a former thrust washer which does not have oil grooves. The planet gear, the thrust washer, or both must have oil grooves.

Adaptable As: Direct replacement when the correct parts are used together. Be sure to use only thrust washers that have oil grooves when used with the new gears.

Since the former parts are canceled, the part number to use for a specific application is shown in Column 3 of the NPR (Numerical Parts Record).
