Usage:
3406B Truck Engines
Description of Change: A new crankshaft damper is used on 3406B Truck Engines rated at 298 kW (400 hp) or 317 kW (425 hp). In the new damper, the rubber is bonded to the hub and ring, creating a more secure joint. In the former damper, these three parts were fastened together by a press fit. When the engine was first started and accelerated in cold weather, the ring could slip on the rubber causing more than 2.03 mm (.080") axial runout, or significant misalignment of the matching marks on the hub and ring.
Adaptable To: The new 9Y4851 Damper Assembly can be used as a direct replacement for the former 2P5149 Damper Assembly. The new damper assembly is effective with 3406B Truck Engines 4MG11880 and 8TC2076 if they have the previously listed power settings. The former damper is still used on 3306B and 3208 Truck Engines in production, but only the new damper is serviced for all 3406B, 3306B, or 3208 Truck Engines.
