A test market program of CXP fluids has been completed, and plans are underway to offer the entire line of products to dealers worldwide. The CXP product line includes engine oils for diesel, natural gas, and gasoline engines, and transmission and drive train oils, hydraulic oils, gear lubricants, arctic lubricants, greases, and antifreeze (antifreeze was announced in the Reference Article). The product line will be expanded as demand indicates the need for additional products.

The decision to provide petroleum products through Caterpillar dealers has resulted from worldwide technical demands. Lubricant-related failures and limits on engine and transmission life due to the current lubricating oils offered in the industry have created a need for high quality and high performance lubricants that are not readily available throughout the world. Caterpillar intends to offer these lubricants so all Caterpillar engine and machine owners will get the maximum life and performance that has been designed into all Caterpillar products.

The CXP Diesel Engine Oil was developed on new Caterpillar performance test equipment, and tested on Caterpillar OL5 and OL6 engine tests. The formulation for the CXP Diesel Engine Oil was selected because of its superior performance in achieving excellent engine cleanliness, maintaining excellent oil control, and offering very stable oil deterioration characteristics. All these factors will give longer life to all Caterpillar Diesel Engines.

The CXP Transmission/Drive Train Oil was developed to minimize clutch slippage caused by additives in engine oils. This oil was performance tested in the Caterpillar Technical Center on full scale test equipment. Use it in brakes, differentials, and final drives requiring the API CD/TO2 type oil.

All other CXP products are high quality lubricants meeting rigid quality standards. Lubricating oils currently used at the factories are being changed to CXP products, and will be used worldwide for the factory fill as soon as possible. Most CXP products will be offered in one gallon, five gallon, 55 gallon, or bulk quantities in the U.S. Other countries will offer these products in four Liter, 20 Liter, 205 Liter, or bulk quantities.

When the CXP products become more widely available, the lubricant recommendations in the service publications will be changed. CXP lubricants will be recommended in all compartments for maximum life and performance of all Caterpillar products. Also indicated will be oil industry classifications that can be used if the CXP products are not available.

Caterpillar fully expects increased life and performance for all its equipment by using these CXP products. Someone will be contacting you regarding the use and implementation of CXP fluids.
