Hydraulic Test Bench Fittings Can Be Adapted To Quick Disconnect Fittings{0600,0784,5050}

Usage:

Reference: Special Instruction, Form SEHS7973-01, "Bench Testing Hydraulic Components", Page I-2.2.

New fittings are available for adapting the various sized XT-3 and XT-5 O-ring ports on transmissions, hydraulic pumps and hydraulic motors, to quick disconnect fittings at various angles. These fittings will be used while bench testing transmissions, pumps, and motors. However, these fittings may be used in other applications if applicable, such as flow meter testing.

When bench testing the various transmissions, pumps, and motors; it is necessary to adapt from many different sized XT-3 and XT-5 O-ring ports, to 1" thread quick disconnect fittings. At times, due to port location, it is necessary to make 45 degree or 90 degree connections. The different flange dimensions and pressures associated with XT-3 and XT-5 systems, makes it necessary to use two different fitting and quick disconnect systems, instead of the one system presently used for both.

NOTE: These new fittings are replacing the fittings shown and listed in the reference as Kit No.2, Quick Disconnect Group, Items 1 through 5, in rows A, B, and C. Those fittings have XT-3 flange dimensions. Currently, dealers use the spacers, Item 18, to allow those fittings to be used with XT-5 split flanges. Those fittings, as well as the new XT-3 series of flange adapters, are not designed to be used with spacers and XT-5 split flanges at pressures above 28,000 kPa (4000 psi).

The quick disconnects shown in the reference are suitable for XT-3 applications, but should not be used for higher pressure XT-5 applications. Also, this group of fittings is limited to either one 45 degree or one 90 degree connection in any one flange size. If a diagnostic test port is needed near this fitting, it requires the assembly of several pipe fittings to include the test port.

Because of the "component" design of the new fittings, users will be able to upgrade their port size coverage with a minimum of tooling and cost.

Fittings and Disconnects for XT-3 Applications

Illustration 1. XT-3 Fittings and quick disconnects.

The XT-3 flange adapters are available in five flange sizes as shown in Chart A (Items A, B, C, D, E). Each flange adapter has a 1 5/16"-12 straight thread O-ring boss connection opposite the flange.

Three adapter fittings used with the XT-3 flange adapters, have a 1 5/16"-12 thread O-ring port to a 1" female pipe thread port. They are available as "straight" (F), 45° (G), or 90° (H) fittings. Each fitting has a No. 6 port (9/16" SAE thread), to provide a convenient diagnostic test port. Each port will require the assembly of either a 6V3965 nipple and 3J1907 Seal or a 9T2186 Plug and 3J1907 Seal. These fittings can be used on any XT-3 flange adapter size to provide the required combination of size and angle needed.

The non-valved quick disconnect nipple (J) used with these fittings has a 1" male pipe thread. The non-valved quick disconnect coupler (K) has a 1" female pipe thread. This coupler is then connected to the male pipe thread coupling for XT-3 hose, Caterpillar Part No. 7S2371 or an equivalent coupling.

NOTE: These quick disconnects are already part of the current tooling in many dealer shops, but were not assigned Caterpillar part numbers. The quick disconnects already used in many dealer shops can be used with these fittings. Snap-Tite® is the manufacturer.

The new XT-3 flange adapters, fittings, and quick disconnects offer the following benefits.

1. Five XT-3 flange adapter sizes.

2. The ability to change the fitting angle on all port sizes with different combinations.

3. Diagnostic test port on each fitting.

4. Quick disconnects with 1" pipe thread that are currently in use.

5. Safety shield machined into adapter fittings to deflect oil if the O-ring seal should fail.

6. For working pressures up to 28,000 kPa (4000 psi).

7. The ability to upgrade with minimum tooling (flange adapters) if additional port sizes require servicing.

8. The ability to use quick disconnects with Caterpillar XT Hose fittings.

Fittings and Disconnects for XT-5 Applications

Illustration 2. XT-5 Fittings and quick disconnects.

The XT-5 flange adapters are available in four flange sizes as shown in Chart B, (Items M, N, O, P). Each flange adapter has a 1 5/16"-12 straight thread O-ring boss connection opposite the flange.

Three adapter fittings used with the XT-5 flange adapters have a 1 5/16"-12 thread O-ring port to a 1 5/16"-12 straight thread O-ring boss. They are available as straight (Q), 45° (R), or 90° (S) fittings. Each contains a No. 6 port (9/16"-18 SAE thread) to provide a convenient diagnostic test port. Each port will require the assembly of either a 6V3965 nipple and 3J1907 Seal or a 9T2186 Plug and 3J1907 Seal.

The XT-5 fittings will use a different (higher pressure) quick disconnect fitting. The quick disconnect fittings used with the XT-5 adapter fittings have a 1 5/16"-12 thread O-ring port on both the nipple and the coupler.

The 1 5/16"-12 female SAE thread quick disconnect fittings are available either as valved (T, U) or non-valved (V, W). The 1" female pipe thread quick disconnect fittings are also available both valved (X, Y), and non-valved (Z, AA). The quick disconnects with pipe threads are then connected to the male pipe thread coupling for XT-5 hose, Caterpillar Part No. 6V2448 or an equivalent coupling.

The new XT-5 flange adapters, fittings, and quick disconnects offer the following benefits.

1. Four XT-5 flange adapter sizes.
2. The ability to change the fitting angle on all port sizes with different combinations.
3. Diagnostic test port on each fitting.
4. High pressure quick disconnects, 40,000 kPa (6000 psi).
5. Safety shield machined into adapter fittings to deflect oil if the O-ring seal should fail.
6. A 40,000 kPa (6000 psi) working pressure.
7. The ability to upgrade with minimum tooling (flange adapters) if additional port sizes require servicing.
8. The ability to use quick disconnects with Caterpillar XT Hose fittings.
