The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

Generator rotor magnets on certain D7E Track Type Tractors separate and cause damage to the stator. The generator stops working and usually ground faults are logged on the machine. The entire generator module must be removed for repair.

Caterpillar is aware of this problem, but an interim repair has not been defined. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.

When an opportunity is present to access the generator, inspect the fiberglass banding around the rotor for fraying. Report any issue with photos to DSN.

In the event of failure, replace the entire generator.

Retain the failed parts and check “Send it Back” for an open parts return request. Additional information regarding failure and effective interim repair can be submitted to the CPI team through CPI feedback function within Service Information Management Systems (SIMSi) referencing CPI number 394048.
