An Improved Stud Is Now Used on High Pressure Turbochargers {1059}

Description of Change: The high pressure turbocharger mounting studs have been replaced by a high temperature stud. The new stud provides better capability for thermal expansion.

Adaptable To: The 313-9550 Taperlock Stud is a direct replacement for the 238-4665 Taperlock Stud. The new stud is adaptable back to the first production of the listed engines.

Procedure to Mount the Turbocharger

Note: Before installing the turbocharger, inspect the spot face of the turbocharger. Inspect the nuts and the housing at the location of contact. If the spot face is not complete, replace the turbocharger.

  1. Remove all four of the old studs from the exhaust manifold.

  1. Lubricate the 2N-2766 Locknut threads with 4C-5599 Anti-Seize Compound .

    Note: Use a 274-6851 Turbocharger Gasket .

  1. Install four new 313-9550 Taperlock Studs. Tighten the 313-9550 Taperlock Studs to 35 ± 5 N·m (26 ± 4 lb ft).

  1. Install the four new 2N-2766 Locknuts. Tighten each locknut to 55 ± 10 N·m (40 ± 7 lb ft) in a crisscross pattern.
