Introduction
The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.
Problem
Reports have been received that the piston pump group (hydrostatic) may fail on the machines listed above.
Solution
In some cases, the hydraulic oil samples have been able to help predict this issue. So, please ensure regular oil samples of the hydraulic system are taken and analysed. Samples should be taken at dealer Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) and at regular maintenance intervals.
If you have a contaminated sample but no failure of the piston pump group yet, please create a Global Dealer Solution Network (GDSN) Product Health Service Request with the following:
- Description explaining the issue as well as referencing this publication
- Attach the Schedule Oil Sampling (SOS) lab report for the Tier 2 to analyse and a Product Status Report (PSR)
- Also, include the hours of the machine prior to submitting to Caterpillar
In the event of failure, replace the 386-6624 Piston Pump Gp (HYDROSTATIC) with the same part number.
The root cause for this issue is under investigation.
Note: Ensure correct maintenance is carried out as per Operation and Maintenance Manual (OMM).
