Rework Procedure to Retighten the Powertrain Mounting Bolts on Certain Compact Wheel Loaders {3253, 3282, 4000, 4201, 4202, 4209}

Description Of Change: Rework procedure to retighten the powertrain mounting bolts on the machines listed above. The rework procedure secures the correct torque is applied to the below listed components.

Adaptable To: The following changes are adaptable to the products within the listed serial numbers, and are effective with all products after the listed serial numbers.

Rework Procedure

Refer to Step1 to Step 6 and Step 9 for the rework procedure for the S/N:AY4 machines.

Refer to Step1 to Step 9 for the rework procedure other than the S/N:AY4 machines.

Note: Ensure that all safety information, warnings, and instructions are read and understood before any operation or any maintenance procedures are performed. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual "Safety Section".

  1. Position the machine on firm level ground. Engage the parking brake and shut off the engine. Remove the ignition key and retain. Turn off the battery disconnect switch. Allow the machine to cool before performing the rework procedure.

    Front Axle
    (1) Bolt

  2. Tighten the front axle eight bolts (1) to 100 ± 20 N·m (74 ± 15 lb ft) , then tighten an extra 180 ± 5 degrees.

    Note: Refer to above reference for the front fixed axle remove and install.

    Rear Axle

  3. Retighten the four trunnion bolts (2) to 460 ± 60 N·m (340 ± 44 lb ft).

  4. Retighten the four bolts (3) to 250 ± 40 N·m (184 ± 30 lb ft).

      Drive shaft group
      For high rimpull arrangement machines
      (4) Bolt
      (5) Bolt

    2. Retighten the 20 bolts (4) to 60 ± 7 N·m (44 ± 5 lb ft).

      Retighten the two bolts (5) to 55 ± 10 N·m (41 ± 7 lb ft).

      Note: Refer to above reference for the drive shaft remove and install.

    3. Retighten the 12 bolts (4) to 60 ± 7 N·m (44 ± 5 lb ft).

      Retighten the four bolts (6) to 33 ± 4 N·m (24 ± 3 lb ft).

      Retighten the two bolts (5) to 55 ± 10 N·m (41 ± 7. lb ft).

      Note: Refer to above reference for the drive shaft remove and install.

  5. Inspect the 473-4839 Bearing As for damage or deformation of the outer housing. Replace the bearing assembly if damage is found.

  6. Tighten the wheel nuts (7).

    Note: Refer to above reference for the tire and rim - remove and install.

    Front and rear axle

  7. Inspect and check the tightness of the differential lock and the brake hose couplings that are connected to the front axle and rear axle.

  8. Perform the parking brake test and adjust as required.

    Note: Refer to above reference for the parking brake - test and adjust.
