NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


If the engine does not start, air may be trapped in the fuel lines to the engine. Use the following procedure to purge air from the fuel lines.

Electric Fuel Priming Pump

Note: You can only use the priming pump when the engine start switch key is OFF.

  1. Push the button on the filter base. The electric priming pump will run for 2 minutes.

  2. Wait until the priming pump has stopped before starting the engine to make sure that the system has been primed correctly.

  3. Run the engine at the LOW IDLE position until the engine runs smoothly.
