Procedure to Install the Heavy-Duty Fender Group on Certain 621, 623, and 627 H and K Series Wheel Tractor-Scrapers {7252} Caterpillar

Introduction

A heavy-duty fender group is now available that provides metallic fender shields and reinforcement straps, and non-metallic scraper bars. These parts can be added to the existing fender group on 621H, 621K, 623H, 623K, 627H, and 627K Wheel Tractor-Scrapers. The metallic fender shields and the scraper may be installed on any machine. The metallic reinforcement straps require that the metallic fender shields are also installed on the machine. This Special Instruction provides the parts and procedures to install the metallic fender shields, reinforcement straps, and scraper bars.

Do not perform any procedure in this Special Instruction until you have read the information and you understand the information.

Setting Up the Machine

1. Move the machine to a hard level surface. Lower the bowl to the ground and lower the apron to the bowl.

2. Place the transmission selector in the Neutral position and set the park brake.

3. Shut off the engine and remove the key from the ignition.

4. Place chocks in front of and behind the rear wheels.

5. Turn the battery disconnect switch to the off position.

1. Remove and retain plates and hardware (A) securing left-hand fender (B) to the machine.

4. Remove and retain baffle and hardware (C) from the machine.

5. Remove and retain hardware (D). Remove and discard the left-hand non-metallic fender shield (E).

1. Install the left-hand reinforcement strap (3) to the machine using existing hardware (A) at the top fender mounting strap. Install bolt (4) and existing washer (A) at the lower fender mounting strap

2. Install bracket (5) to strap (3) with two bolts (6) and two washers (7).

3. Install bracket (5) to metallic fender shield (1) with bolt (8), mount assembly (9), spacers (10), and washers (11).

1. Install right-hand reinforcement strap (12) to the machine using existing hardware (A) at the top of the fender strap. Install washer (13) and bolt (14) at the bottom of fender strap.

2. Install bracket (5) to strap (12) with two bolts (6) and two washers (7).

3. Install bracket (5) to metallic fender shield (2) with bolt (8), mount assembly (9), spacers (10), and washers (11).

Note: Removal of the fenders makes the procedure of drilling holes easier but is not required for installation.
