Incorrectly Identified Alternator Wiring on Some G3500 A3 Engines{1405, 1408}

Usage:

G3508 DLR
Engine:
G3508 (S/N: WPM1-UP; WPN1-UP; DLR1-UP)
G3512 (S/N: WPP1-UP; WPR1-UP; GNS1-UP)
G3516 (S/N: WPS1-UP; WPT1-UP; WPW1-UP)

Introduction

The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

Some G3500 A3 engines are shipped with the positive alternator wire disconnected. The positive alternator wire is covered with black heat shrink tubing during assembly. This has lead to installation of some of the terminal boots on the wrong wire. This problem is most likely to occur on engines that are not certified by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA).

Solution

Before connecting the alternator wires, check both wires for polarity. Wrap red electrician's tape on the positive wire near the terminal. Install the red terminal boot on the end of the positive wire.
