Bottom Guard - Remove and Install

Accidental machine starting can cause injury or death to personnel working on the machine.

To avoid accidental machine starting, turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position and remove the key. If the machine is not equipped with a battery disconnect switch, disconnect the battery cables from the battery and tape the battery clamps.

Place a do not operate tag at the battery disconnect switch location to inform personnel that the machine is being worked on.


Note: The weights of the bottom guards are between 23 kg (50 lb) and 104 kg (230 lb). The bottom guards may contain 90 kg (200 lb) of rock, dirt, liquids, and debris.Each guard can be removed individually.

  1. The weight of bottom guard (2) is approximately 23 kg (50 lb). Remove bolts (1) and the washers.

  2. Remove bottom guard (2).

  3. Use Tooling (A) to support bottom guard (4). The weight of bottom guard (4) is approximately 104 kg (230 lb)

  4. Remove nuts (3) and the washers. Remove pins (5). Lower Tooling (A) and remove bottom guard (4).

  5. Remove bolts (7), (8), and the washers. Remove pins (9).

  6. Use Tooling (A) to support bottom guard (6). The weight of bottom guard (6) is approximately 64 kg (140 lb).

  7. Remove bolts (10), lower Tooling (A), and remove bottom guard (6).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install bottom guards (6), (4), and (2) in the reverse order of removal.

  1. Use Tooling (A) to secure bottom guard (4). Remove bolts (3) and the washers.

  2. Use Tooling (A) to swing open bottom guard (4) to ground level. The bottom guard pivots on the pins.

  3. Use Tooling (A) to secure bottom guard (6). Remove the bolts and the washers.

  4. Use Tooling (A) to swing open bottom guard (6) to ground level. The bottom guard pivots on the pins.

Raising Procedure

  1. Install the bottom guards in the reverse order of the lowering procedure.
