The software program that will be used for this test procedure is the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET). The Caterpillar Electronic Technician is a software program that can be used on an IBM-compatible personal computer.

Introduction

The following procedure is for adjusting the limit switch ( throttle lock deactivation).

The software program that will be used for this test procedure is the Cat ET. The Cat ET is a software program that can be used on an IBM-compatible personal computer.

(1) Cat Electronic Technician (ET) and Software CD, NETG5057 are required when using the communication adapter.

Test Preparation

Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Machine Preparation for Troubleshooting".

Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "System Pressure Release".

Test Procedure

  1. Connect the laptop computer to the service connector in the cab.

  2. Open the software program (ET). Select the engine ECM from the "ECM Selector" menu.

  3. Select the "Information" menu item from the toolbar. Select the "Status" menu item.

  4. Place a 1.55 mm (0.062 inch) shim between the pedal stop and the right-hand brake pedal.

  5. Select "Throttle Lock" in ET. If "Depressed" appears in the "Brake Pedal" row under the "Value" column, proceed to Step 10. If "Released" appears, proceed to Step 6.

  6. Remove the three screws from the cover plate on the right-hand brake pedal switch in order to access adjustment screw (3).

  7. Place a 1.55 mm (0.062 inch) shim between the pedal stop and the right-hand brake pedal.

  8. Loosen adjustment screw (3). Adjust adjustment plate (2) until "Deprssed" appears in the "Brake Pedal" row under the "Value" column in ET. Then, torque adjustment screw (3) to 1.4 ± 0.3 N·m (12 ± 3 lb in).

  9. Remove the shim from the pedal stop.

  10. Place a 0.775 mm (0.031 inch) shim between the pedal stop and the right-hand brake pedal.

  11. Verify, "Released" appears in the "Brake Pedal" row under the "Value" column in ET. If "Released" now appears, proceed to Step 12. If "Released" does not appear, repeat Step 6 through Step 10.

  12. Remove the shim from the pedal stop.

  13. If the cover plate was removed, replace the cover plate with the three screws.
