Improved Jacket Water Heaters Are Now Available {1383}

Usage:

3412C 4BZ
Engine:
3412 (S/N: 4BZ1-UP)
3412C (S/N: DJN1-UP; TFT1-UP)

New jacket water heaters are now available for the 3412C Generator Sets. Unlike the heaters that transfer heat via the convection of jacket water, the new heater utilizes a pump in order to circulate the jacket water.

The pump allows the heater to operate at a higher wattage. The pump allows the heater to operate with greater efficiency. When these new Jacket Water heaters are used the genset will start with lower amounts of white smoke. The genset will start with less wet stacking. The continuous circulation of the coolant results in a lower peak temperature for the coolant. Degradation of following items is reduced by the lower peak temperatures:

  • heater hoses

  • the engine's seals

  • heating elements

The new heating system exceeds the requirements of ratings for low ambient temperatures. In comparison to convection heaters, the new systems can save the customer in excess of 30 percent of the electrical costs that are associated with heating the jacket water.

Two heating systems are available. One system is for the 50 Hz generator sets. The other system is for the 60 Hz generator sets. There are no differences in the appearance of the two systems. However, the electrical ratings for the heating elements are different. Refer to Table 1 in order to select the correct part number.
