Fuel Filter Base - Remove and Install

  1. Turn the fuel supply to the OFF position and turn the power disconnect switch to the OFF.

    Note: Depending on the machine application, the fuel filter assembly will be mounted in various places on a machine. The following procedure is a general procedure for servicing the fuel filter base. Refer to the machine-specific engine supplement manual for more specific instructions.

  1. Cut clips (1) and remove hose assemblies (2) and the fittings.

  1. Disconnect the harness assembly from fuel temperature sensor (3). Remove temperature sensor (3) .

  1. Disconnect the harness assembly from pre-filter fuel pressure sensor (4). Remove pressure sensor (4) .

  1. Use Tooling (A) to remove fuel filters (5). Remove fuel filter base (6) .

  1. Remove adapter assembly (7) and studs (8) .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install fuel filter base (6) in reverse order of removal.

    1. Apply Tooling (B) to the threads of studs (8). Tooling (B) should cover the threads of the stud, shown as Distance (C), which is a measurement of 7.6 ± 0.8 mm (0.3 ± 0.03 inch).

    1. Tighten studs (8) to a torque of 70 ± 15 N·m (52 ± 11 lb ft).

    1. Tighten fuel temperature sensor (1) to a torque of 20 ± 3 N·m (177 ± 26 lb in).

    1. Tighten pre-filter fuel pressure sensor (2) to a torque of 10 ± 2 N·m (88 ± 17 lb in).

    1. Lubricate the fuel filter seals with the fluid that is being sealed prior to installation. Use Tooling (A) to tighten the fuel filters (5) to a torque of 35 ± 3 N·m (26 ± 2 lb ft).
