Torque Converter Stall Speed (Third Gear Override) (Operator Monitor) - Test

Usage:

992K 880

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from escaping fluid under pressure.

Escaping fluid under pressure, even a very small pin-hole size leak, can penetrate body tissue, causing serious injury, and possible death.

Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak.

Do not check for pin hole leaks in pump or motor hoses during a steer stall condition.

If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated by a doctor familiar with this type of injury immediately.

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement.

Sudden movement of the machine or release of oil under pressure can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.

To help prevent possible injury, perform the procedure that follows before testing and adjusting the hydraulic and steering system:

The torque converter stall test helps determine if the engine is producing the correct power output. This stall test is used in many diagnostic procedures.

  1. Move the machine to a hard, level surface that is free of debris.

  2. Permit only one operator on the machine. Keep all other personnel away from the machine.

  3. Highlight "Service" on the Advisor and press the "OK" button.

  4. Highlight "Service Modes" and press the "OK" button.

  5. Highlight "Implement and press the ""OK" button

  6. Highlight "Stall Checks" and press the "OK button"

  7. Highlight "Third Gear Stall Speed Test" and press the "OK" button.

  8. Engage the hydraulic lockout switch.

  9. Disengage the steering and transmission lock.

  10. Warm the transmission oil to a temperature of 50 °C (122 °F) or more. Press the "NEXT" button if transmission oil is already up to temperature.

  11. Shift the transmission to the "NEUTRAL" position.

  12. Engage the parking brake.

  13. Fully depress the right service brake pedal. Then press the "NEXT" button. Hold the right service brake pedal in this position for the remainder of the test.

  14. Shift the transmission to third gear forward.

  15. Slowly increase engine speed to high idle.

  16. Permit the speed of the engine to stabilize. Note the engine speed. Compare the engine speed against the nominal value.

  17. Shift the transmission to "NEUTRAL" in order to exit the service mode.

The torque converter stall speed should be 1730 ± 40.

If the torque converter stall speed is above the specified range, the engine power output could be too high. Or, if the torque converter stall speed is above the specified range, the torque converter could have excess slippage.

If the torque converter stall speed is below the specified range, the engine may not be developing full power. Or, if the torque converter stall speed is below the specified range, there may be an excessive parasitic load on the engine.
