The improved waste handling arrangements (if equipped) contain one new 365-5074 Guard As. The new guard assembly prevents debris from wrapping around the shaft of the fan motor. The guard assembly will improve the service life of the fan motor in the field.

The new 365-5074 Guard As is now part of the 233-9782 Waste Handling Ar (if equipped), and the 341-1555 Waste Handling Ar (if equipped).

The new 365-5074 Guard As is adaptable to machines FCT1-UP, J8B1-UP, KPZ1-UP, and MLN1-417.

The new 365-5074 Guard As became available in production with the machines MLN418-UP.

Use the following procedure to update the earlier machines with the new 365-5074 Guard As.

Table 1
Needed Parts
Item     Qty     Part Number     Description
1     1     365-5074     Guard As

  1. Release the hydraulic pressure in your machine. Refer to the above listed documents for the correct procedure for machine on which you are working.

  1. Apply vacuum pressure to the hydraulic tank. For the correct procedure, refer to the first step in removal process for the hydraulic fan piston motor in the above listed documents.

  1. Remove the retaining bolts from the grill doors. Open the grill doors. Save the bolts.

  1. Use a suitable lifting device to support the fan spider. The approximate weight of the fan spider is 34 kg (75 lb). Remove the eight bolts (8) that attach the fan spider to the fan adapter. Place the fan spider out of the way. Discard the hardware.

    NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Remove the two hoses that are connected to the hydraulic fan piston motor. Cap the two hoses and the two connections on the hydraulic fan piston motor.

  1. Use a suitable lifting device to support the hydraulic fan piston motor. The weight of the hydraulic fan piston motor is approximately 29 kg (64 lb).

  1. Remove the bolt (11) and retainer (12) that attach the fan adapter (13) to the hydraulic fan piston motor. Save the bolt and retainer.

  1. Use a puller to remove the fan adapter from the hydraulic fan piston motor. Refer to the above listed removal process for the hydraulic fan piston motor for the required tooling.

  1. Use a suitable lifting device to install the hydraulic fan piston motor into the machine. The weight of the hydraulic fan piston motor is approximately 29 kg (64 lb). Use the four bolts (9) and four washers (10) that were saved in Step 8 to attach the hydraulic fan piston motor to the machine.

    Illustration 8g02691478

  1. Use a suitable lifting device to position the fan spider to the hydraulic fan piston motor. The approximate weight of the fan spider is 34 kg (75 lb). Use four bolts (2) and four hard washers (3) to attach the fan spider to the adapter. Install the bolts and hard washers in the positions shown in the illustration.

    Illustration 9g02691536

  1. Install four bolts (4) and four hard washers (3) to the fan spider in the remaining four holes. Rotate the fan guard so the bolts align with the fan guard holes. Ensure that the bolts are tightened to the adapter.

  1. Install four hard washers (3) and four locknuts (5) to the four bolts (4) that extend through guard assembly (1). Hold the bolt head and torque the nuts to 55 ± 10 N·m (41 ± 7 lb ft).

  1. Attach the hydraulic hoses to the hydraulic fan piston motor.
