Equipment Lowering with Engine Stopped

Usage:

994H DWC

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death may occur from failure to adhere to the following warnings.

Keep all personnel away from the boom drop area when lowering the boom with the engine stopped.

Keep all personnel away from the front linkage when lowering the boom.

  1. Turn the engine start switch key to the ON position.

  2. Move the hydraulic lockout control to the UNLOCKED position.

  3. Push lift control lever (2) to the LOWER position in order to lower the bucket or the work tool to the ground. The lift control will return to the HOLD position when the control lever is released.

  4. Once the bucket or the work tool is lowered to the ground, alternate movement of tilt control lever (1) between the DUMP position and the TILT BACK position. Movement of the tilt control lever will allow the bucket to tilt to a position that will release the hydraulic pressure in the bucket tilt circuit.

  5. Move the hydraulic lockout control to the LOCKED position.

  6. Turn the engine start switch key to the OFF position.

Equipment Lowering (Manual Method)

Note: In certain circumstances, equipment lowering and release of implement hydraulic system pressure may not be possible by using the previously described method. The lift arms can be lowered and the bucket can be allowed to tilt by using the following procedures.

Lowering Lift Arms (Manual Method)

(4) Implement oil ecology drain valve (reference)
(5) Quick fill/drain valve (reference)

  1. Locate manual implement lowering valve (3). This ball-type valve is located at the hitch on the right-hand side of the machine on the front frame.

  2. Make certain that you, and all other personnel are clear of any machine components that will move when the lift arms are lowered.

  3. Slowly turn the valve stem with an appropriate tool to open the manual implement lowering valve. This action will allow the lift arms to lower. No hydraulic oil will be released outside of the hydraulic system when performing this procedure.

  4. Turn the valve stem with an appropriate tool to close the manual implement lowering valve when the lift arms are safely lowered to the ground.

Bucket Tilt (Manual Method)

Bleeder screws (6) on top of bucket tilt control valve

Locate the bucket tilt control valve. The bucket tilt control valve is located in the front part of the machine on the left-hand side, forward of the implement high-pressure screens.

  1. Connect a suitable hose to each bleeder screw (6) that is located on top of the bucket tilt control valve.

  2. Oil will escape from the bucket tilt hydraulic circuit when the bleeder screws are loosened. Direct the other end of each hose into the filler tube of the implement hydraulic system oil tank.

Note: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "General Hazard Information" for information on containing fluid spillage.

  3. Make certain that you, and all other personnel are clear of any machine components that will move when the bucket tilts.

  4. Slowly open the bleeder screws to a maximum 1/2 turn to allow the oil to be released from the bucket tilt circuit. Be certain that the bleeder screw hoses remain directed into the filler tube of the implement hydraulic system oil tank.

  5. Close the bleeder screws and remove the hoses when the pressure is released from the bucket tilt circuit. Do not allow the oil that is contained in the hoses to spill.
