Start By:

  1. Remove the air inlet shutoff. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Air Inlet Shutoff - Remove and Install".


    NOTICE

    Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

    Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



    NOTICE

    Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

    Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

    Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change".

  2. Remove bolts (2), adapters (3), and tube assemblies (1). Remove the O-ring seals from tube assemblies (1).

  3. Remove adapters (4) from aftercooler (6). Remove O-ring seals (5) from adapters (4).

  4. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to aftercooler (6). The weight of aftercooler (6) is approximately 240 kg (530 lb).

  5. Remove bolts (7) and aftercooler (6).

  6. Inspect the seal around the aftercooler core. Replace the seal if the seal is worn or damaged.

  7. Remove the O-ring seals from the aftercooler core tubes.

  8. Inspect the air plenum for debris. If debris is found, remove the inspection covers and clean the air plenum. Find the source of the debris and correct the problem.
