Stop the engine in order to inspect the belt.

Open the engine access door. Ensure that the bolts holding the generator pulley are tight. Check the belt tension through the slot (9). If the belt tension needs to be adjusted, use the following procedure.
Belt Adjust
- Do not remove the guard to adjust the belt.
- Check the belt tension through the slot (9) .

- Loosen four bolts (7). Adjust the tension using the nut (8) .
- Inspect the condition of the belt and the adjustment of the belt. The belt should deflect 6.5 mm (0.26 inch) under a straight push of 10 kg (22 lb).
Note: A Gates Pencil Type Tension Tester 74010076 may be used to measure belt tension. Refer to the instructions provided with the tension gauge for the proper procedure.
- Recheck the belt deflection. Repeat the adjustment if necessary.
- Tighten four bolts (7) to the standard torque specified.
- Check the torque on the four bolts (7) and the pulley center (10) at every inspection.
- Close the engine access door.
Replace the Belt
- Remove the guards (2) and (3) .

- Loosen four bolts (7). Loosen the tension on the belt using the nut (8) .
- Remove four bolts on the front of the pulley cover.
- Remove the belt and install a new belt.
- Install four bolts on the front of the pulley cover. Follow the steps to adjust the tension on the belt.
Note: Adjust the belt tension when the belt is installed. Adjust the belt tension after 1 hour of running. After the second adjustment, the belt tension should not need adjusting until the next replacement
- Install the covers.
- Close the engine access door.
