Procedure to Rework 268-9348 STIC Control Gp
Sudden movement or accidental starting of the machine can cause personal injury or death to persons on or near the machine. To prevent personal injury or death, perform the following: Park the machine on a smooth level surface. Lower the bucket and or attachments to the ground. Stop the engine and engage the parking brake. Block the wheels and install the steering frame lock. Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position and remove the key. Place a Special Instruction, SEHS7332, "Do Not Operate" tag at the battery disconnect switch location to inform personnel that the machine is being worked on. |
Accidental engine starting can cause injury or death to personnel working on the equipment. To avoid accidental engine starting, disconnect the battery cable from the negative (−) battery terminal. Completely tape all metal surfaces of the disconnected battery cable end in order to prevent contact with other metal surfaces which could activate the engine electrical system. Place a Do Not Operate tag at the Start/Stop switch location to inform personnel that the equipment is being worked on. |
- Permit only one operator on the machine. Either keep other personnel away from the machine, or keep other personnel in the sight of the operator.
- Move the machine to a smooth horizontal location. Move the machine to an area that is away from operating machines and away from personnel.
- Move the transmission F-N-R control to the NEUTRAL position.
- Lower the work tools to the ground.
- Activate the parking brakes. Stop the engine and remove the ignition key.
- Turn the battery disconnect switch to OFF position.
- Place blocks in front of the wheels and behind the wheels.
- Position the lockout lever assembly (1) to the side in order to access the armrest latch lever assembly (2) .

- Remove the latch lever assembly (2) and disconnect the latch release cable. Keep the armrest in the latched position.
- Remove the cover (3) and cover (4). Save the hardware.
- Remove the bracket (5) and hardware. Save the parts.

- Assemble the pilot valve group (13) to the new bracket assembly (16) as shown in Illustration 8.
Illustration 8 | g02317653 |
- Install the plate (12) and hardware (11) to the pilot valve group (13) as shown in Illustration 9. Use the parts that were saved in Step 16. The top bolt must be installed from the bracket side. The two lower bolts are installed from the plate side. Tighten the bolts (12) to 28 ± 7 N·m (248 ± 62 lb in). Ensure that the spacer and clip on the lower left of the plate (12) are installed and that the clip is facing downwards.

- Route the joystick wiring harness (10) through the hole in the new bracket assembly (16) and down. Attach the joystick wiring harness (10) to the new bracket assembly (16) with a new cable strap (17). Do not tighten the cable strap (17). Operate the joystick in each direction to ensure that the harness does not bind and tighten the cable strap (17) .

Note: The joystick wiring harness to be routed through the bracket assembly before the bracket assembly is bolted to the armrest. The connector will not fit through the opening once the bracket is mounted to the armrest.
- Install the new bracket assembly (16) to the steering control support group with four new bolts (18) and four new hard washers (19) as shown in Illustration 11. Tighten the bolts (18) to 28 ± 7 N·m (248 ± 62 lb in).

- Ensure that the steering lock moves freely and does not rub on the lock plate. Adjust the lock plate if needed. Any rubbing will cause the steering to jerk. Refer to Illustration 13.
Illustration 13 | g02317853 |
- Connect the electrical connector (6) and electrical connector (7) as shown in Illustration 14.
Illustration 14 | g02317855 |
- Ensure that no interference between joystick wiring harness and edge of the bracket assembly. Ensure that the wire bends are smooth. Make the connections to the mating harness and ensure positive connections.
- Install the bracket (5) as shown in Illustration 15. Use the parts that were saved in Step 11. Tighten the bolts to 12 ± 3 N·m (106 ± 27 lb in).
