The software program that will be used for this test procedure is the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (Cat ET). The Cat ET is a software program that can be used on an IBM-compatible personal computer.

Machine Preparation

  1. Park the machine on a smooth, level surface.

  2. Shift the transmission direction control switch to the NEUTRAL position.

  3. Lower the bucket or the work tool to the ground.

  4. Engage the parking brake.

  5. Place blocks in front of the wheels and behind the wheels.

  6. Install the steering frame lock.

  7. Allow only authorized personnel on the machine. Keep unauthorized personnel off the machine and in clear sight of the operator.

  8. Shut off the engine.

    Note: This calibration procedure can be performed without a running engine.

  9. Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the ON position.

Procedure for Setting the Values of the Reduced Rimpull Select Switch

Sudden movement of the machine can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.

Prevent possible injury by performing the procedure that follows before working on the machine.

  1. Connect the laptop computer to the service connector (6) in the cab. The service connector is located on the back wall of the cab to the right of the operator's station.

    Note: The Cat ET will not allow a reduced rimpull setting at a lower position to be set to a value that is higher than the value of a reduced rimpull setting at a higher position. Make sure that the values of the reduced rimpull settings increase from the lowest setting to the highest setting.

    Note: The reduced rimpull setting for position 4 is fixed at 100%. The setting for positions 1 through 3 may be set to any value between 35% and 95%.

  2. Open the software program Cat ET. Select the "Transmission 993K" from the "ECM Selector" menu.

  3. Select the "Service" menu item from the toolbar. Select the "Configuration" menu item.

  4. The reduced rimpull settings are near the bottom of the screen. Highlight the setting to change. Click on the "Change" button in the bottom left of the screen. Click the "Yes" button.

  5. Enter the new value for the reduced rimpull setting. Click the "OK" button.

  6. The value of the reduced rimpull setting for the "Position 1" switch has been changed.

  7. Repeat Steps 2 through 6 for each of the reduced rimpull switches that require a change.

  8. Close the software program Cat ET. Shut down the laptop computer. Disconnect the computer from the service connector in the cab.
