Alternator - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure

Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.

  1. Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Battery Disconnect Switch".

  1. Remove upper grill (1) .

  1. Remove bolts (2). Position lower grill (3) to the side.

  1. Remove shields (4) .

  1. Note the location of bolts on guard (5) for installation. Remove guard (5). Remove belt (6). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, " Belt - Inspect/Adjust/Replace".

    Note: Spacers (not shown) are located behind the bolts that hold the cover in place.

  1. Disconnect harness assemblies (8). Remove alternator (7) .

Installation Procedure

Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, all parts should be thoroughly cleaned in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause later trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.

  1. Install alternator (7). Connect harness assemblies (8).

  1. Install belt (6). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, " Belt - Inspect/Adjust/Replace". Install guard (5) .

  1. Install shields (4) .

  1. Position lower grill (3). Install bolts (2).

  1. Install upper grill (1) .

  1. Turn the power disconnect switch to the ON position.
