Installation of Speed Sensor Group{1907} Caterpillar

Engine:

3406E (S/N: 5EK1-30869)

Introduction

This Special Instruction provides instructions for the installation of the 265-9033 Speed Sensor Group on certain 3406E Engines.

Note: This Special Instruction should only be used for 3406E Engines. The 265-9033 Speed Sensor Gp is used on other engine models. The 3406E is the only model that uses the 126-8481 Washer . Do not perform any procedure that is outlined in this Special Instruction until the information is read and understood.

Installation

Use the following procedure to install the engine speed sensor:

1. Place two 126-8481 Washers over the threads and the O-ring of the 265-9033 Speed Sensor Gp .

   Note: A 126-8481 Washer may be stuck to the housing. Ensure that only two washers are on the engine after the installation.

2. Install the 265-9033 Speed Sensor Gp onto the engine.

3. Torque the sensor to 40 ± 5 N·m (29.5 ± 3.7 lb ft).

4. Connect the pigtail to the harness.

5. Clear all the following faults from the event log: speed and timing.

6. Follow the proper procedure for Engine Timing in order to calibrate.
