Engine overspeed - Causes the EMCP 3 to shut down the engine
High coolant temperature - Causes the EMCP 3 to either shut down the engine or to issue a warning based on the event response configuration set points
Low oil pressure - Causes the EMCP 3 to either shut down the engine or to issue a warning based on the event response configuration set points
Relevant Engine Parameter Group Set Points
Engine set point verification procedure is used to adjust the configuration set points in the configuration parameter groups that are used during normal operation.
The following conditions are required before the engine set points are verified:
- The relevant set points listed in each configuration parameter group must be correct for the engine application.
- No shutdown events should be present at the initial start-up. If necessary, troubleshoot, correct, and reset any shutdown events.
During the procedure, each configuration set point that is to be adjusted must be recorded. Any set point that was adjusted must be returned to the original setting after the set point has been verified.
Note: Prior to performing this procedure, a service replacement file can be saved using the Caterpillar service tool. The replacement file is used in order to record the configuration. The record of the configuration allows the control to be returned to the original set points after the procedure has been completed.

Engine Over Speed Shutdown Threshold Set Point
Note: The engine over speed shutdown threshold is a password protected Level 3 set point. The passwords only affect changing parameters from the EMCP 3 control panel display. Changing parameters with the Caterpillar Service Tool does not require passwords.
Reference: For details on changing the EMCP 3 security level, see Systems Operation, RENR7902, "Password Entry".
- Start the engine and run the engine at the rated speed.
- Adjust the set point value to a value that is below the speed that the engine is running, and then press the "ENTER" key. An engine over speed shutdown event will immediately occur.
- View the event in the generator set control event log.
Reference: Systems Operation, RENR7902, "Event Viewing"
- Reset the event.

- Return the set point value to the original value.
Low Engine Oil Pressure Shutdown Event Threshold Set Point
- Start the engine and run the engine at the rated speed.
- Adjust the set point value to a value that is above the oil pressure that is being displayed, and then press the ENTER key. A shutdown event will occur after the programmable time delay has expired. The default for this delay is 10 seconds.
- View the event in the generator set control event log.

- Return the set point value to the original value.
High Engine Coolant Temperature Shutdown Event Threshold Setpoint
- Start the engine and run the engine at the rated speed.
- Adjust the set point value to a value that is below the engine coolant temperature that is being displayed, and then press the "ENTER" key. A shutdown event will occur after the programmable time delay has expired. The default for this delay is 10 seconds.
