Pilot Oil Accumulator (Dead Engine Lower)

Usage:

525C 525

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.

Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.

Make sure all of the work tools have been lowered to the ground, and the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

----------------------

The machine is equipped with an accumulator in the hydraulic system. The accumulator performs two functions.

The accumulator supplies supplemental oil pressure to the differential locks, when the differential locks are engaged. The accumulator controls the lowering of the boom and/or arch, when the engine is stopped.

Right Side of the Machine

The accumulator is located in the compartment behind the right door of the cab. In order to gain access to the accumulator, open the compartment door.

Accumulator

The bladder type accumulator is mounted to a block manifold. The accumulator stores potential energy by accumulating a quantity of pressurized hydraulic oil. The pressurized fluid is stored in a bladder type accumulator. A bag that contains gas is located within the accumulator. The medium that is used for charging is dry nitrogen.

The pressurized oil enters the accumulator from the pressure reducing valve that is mounted in the steering and the decking blade valve. The fluid creates pressure within the accumulator. Energy is stored as the bag that is within the accumulator is compressed by the oil.

When the differential locks are engaged the stored pressure in the accumulator supplies supplemental pressure to the differential locks. The stored pressure in the accumulator maintains a steady pressure on the differential locks.

When the engine is stopped, the accumulator supplies pressurized pilot oil to the pilot valve of the boom and/or the arch. This pilot oil is used to lower the boom and/or the arch.

When the grapple control lever is moved to the boom down, the pilot oil flows to the boom control valve. The boom control valve shifts allowing the boom to lower.

After the work tools are lowered to the ground, relieve the pressure in the accumulator by moving the handle of the grapple control several times in different directions.
