Start By:

  1. Connect the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".

  2. Remove the rear hood. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hood (Rear) - Remove and Install".

  3. Remove the exhaust purifier and muffler. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Exhaust Purifier and Muffler - Remove".

Note: SERVICE DATA: TOOLING (ZZ) WILL NOT BE IDENTIFIED IN PHOTOGRAPHS IN THE REMOVAL OR THE INSTALLATION. THIS TOOLING IS SHOWN IN ORDER TO ASSIST THE EXPERIENCED SERVICEMAN

Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the removal procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.

Note: Put identification marks on all hoses, on all hose assemblies, on all wires, and on all tube assemblies for installation purposes. Plug all hose assemblies and all tube assemblies. This helps to prevent fluid loss, and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Drain the hydraulic tank into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)" for the capacity of the hydraulic tank. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hydraulic System Oil - Change" for the proper draining procedure.

  2. Remove five bolts (2) and firewall (1).

  3. Remove seven bolts (3) (not shown) and firewall (4).

  4. Remove three bolts (6) (not shown) and firewall (5).

  5. Remove clamps (10), (11), and (12).

  6. Remove tube assemblies (8) and (9).

  7. Disconnect hose assembly (7).

  8. Disconnect hose assemblies (15) and (16).

  9. Remove clamp (14) and tube assembly (13).

  10. Disconnect tee fitting (17).

  11. Remove tube assembly (18).

  12. Loosen two hose clamps (19) and (20).

  13. Remove four bolts (21) and tube assembly (22).

  14. Remove four bolts (23) and tube assembly (24).

  15. Remove two bolts (25).

  16. Attach a suitable lifting device to hoist, steering, brake and pilot pump (27). The weight of the hoist, steering, brake and pilot pump is approximately 118 kg (260 lb).

  17. Remove six bolts (26) and hoist, steering, brake and pilot pump (27).

  18. Remove four bolts (29) and tube assembly (28).

  19. Remove four bolts (30) and tube assembly (31).

  20. Remove O-ring seal (32) from tube assembly (28).

  21. Repeat Step 20 for tube assembly (31).

  22. Remove check valve (35). Remove the O-ring seal from check valve (35).

  23. Remove four bolts (33) and adapter (34). Remove the O-ring seal from adapter (34).
