Service Magazine SEPD0745, 2 August 2004, "Improved Mounting Brackets for the Angle Cylinders Are Now Used". Disregard this article. See the replacement article that follows. No change was made to the text of this document. The effectivity was updated.

Description of Change: New brackets for the blade angle cylinder are now used on D6R power angle tilt blades. The new brackets are more durable. The new design will extend the life of both the bracket and the cylinder mounting pins and bearings.

Adaptable To: The new brackets are effective with the following D6R Series II Track-Type Tractors:

  • AAX603

  • AEP347

  • ADE521

The new brackets are adaptable to the following D6R Track-Type Tractors:

  • 5LN1-UP

  • DMP1-UP

  • AAX1-602

  • AEP1-346

  • 9PN1-UP

  • ADE1-520

Use the following parts and rework procedures if you are updating an existing field machine to the improved design.

Rework Procedure

  1. Remove the blade from the C-frame.

  1. Use air arc gouging to remove the mounting brackets for the angle cylinder from the back of the blade. Be sure to mark the current location of the bracket. Measure the distance from the bracket to the edge of the blade. Record the measurements. Repeat this step for both sides of the blade.

  1. Prepare the mounting location for the angle cylinder for welding. The new mounting brackets will be welded in the exact same location as the old brackets.

  1. Tack weld the mounting bracket in place and check in order to make sure that the bracket is in the same location as the old bracket.

    Illustration 3g01085345

  1. Weld the bracket in place by welding completely around the outside edge and by plug welding (A) the center of the bracket.

  1. Repeat Steps 3 through 5 for the other side of the blade.

  1. Place a new mounting pin for the angle cylinder into the bores on the new mounting flanges for the C-frame. Tack weld 3 pieces of bar stock to the flanges in order to make the flange assembly that is shown. Assemble the flanges according to the dimension in illustration 4.

Note: Removal of the C-frame from the tractor is not necessary.

  1. Use a straight edge to mark the C-frame (C). This mark will be the guideline for cutting the flange from the C-frame.

Note: Notice the location of the bracket for the hose clamp on the C-frame. The bracket is located on the mounting flange for the left-hand angle cylinder. This bracket must be removed. Save the bracket for reinstallation after repair is completed.

  1. Cut both flanges from the C-frame. Grind the areas smooth and prepare the area for welding.

    Illustration 7g01085382

  1. Tack weld the flange assembly to the C-frame. Ensure that the flange assembly lines up with the remaining parts of the old mounting flanges. The inner face of each flange must be flush with the corresponding face of the old mounting flanges.

  1. Tack weld a support bar to the top flanges (D) and to the bottom flanges (E) in order to minimize distortion. Weld the flange assembly to the C-frame. Allow the part to cool.

  1. Repeat Steps 7 through 11 for the other side of the C-frame.

  1. Weld the bracket for the hose clamp to the left side of the C-frame. The bracket should be welded in the original location.

  1. Install the blade with new mounting pins for the angle cylinder.
