New Heat Shield For Wiring To Electrical Shutoff Group{7400,7403,7418}

Usage:

3512, 3516 Industrial, Marine And Generator Set Engines So Equipped

SUPPLEMENT: 03/25/85

SERVICE MAGAZINE, OCTOBER 29, 1984, PAGE 5, "New Heat Shield For Wiring To Electrical Shutoff Group". In the section ADAPTABLE AS, put a mark through the part number 2S6123. The correct part number is 2W6123.

There have been reports of failures of the 2W6507 Shield. Adding the 7W686 Shield will provide a stronger shield and help prevent failures of the 2W6507 Shield.

--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------

Description of Change: A new heat shield is used on the above engines equipped with electrical shutoff groups. The new heat shield deflects exhaust manifold heat away from the wiring to the electrical shutoff group. This will help prevent heat damage to the plastic conduit which surrounds the wiring.

Adaptable As: The new 7W686 Shield can be adapted to all 3512 and 3516 Industrial, Marine and Generator Set Engines equipped with 2W6121 and 2W6123 Electrical Shutoff Groups.

The parts needed to install the new heat shield are shown in the chart. The locations of the parts are shown in the illustration.

To install the 7W686 Shield, a 7.5 mm (0.30") hole has to be drilled in an existing shield that is part of the air shutoff group. Put the 7W686 Shield in place and mark the hole. (See the illustration). Remove the shield and drill the hole.
