New Rear Crankshaft Seal Group Used {1161}

Usage:

All 3300 Series Engines That Have A Dry Flywheel Housing

Description of Change: A new rear crankshaft seal group is used on the above engines. The new seal is different in design than the former seal. The new seal is made from a different material and has hydrodynamic grooves in the seal lip. These grooves move lubrication oil back into the engine crankcase as the crankshaft turns. Because of this action, the seal can be used only on crankshafts that turn in the direction marked on the seal.

The new seal group must not be used in applications with a "wet" flywheel housing. In these applications, the hydrodynamic action of the seal could cause transmission oil to be pumped into the engine crankcase.

The material in the new seal lip can be damaged very easily. Fingers, fingernails, wires or the edge of the wear sleeve can put a scratch on the surface of the seal lip.

The new seal group comes with the seal already installed on the wear sleeve. This is done to protect the lip of the seal and make installation easier. The seal and the wear sleeve must not be separated. If they are separated, they must not be used.

Adaptable As: The new 4W452 Crankshaft Seal Group is a direct replacement for the former 1N3216 Crankshaft Seal Group. The new 4W452 Crankshaft Seal Group is in effect as shown in the chart.

Special Instruction, Form SMHS8396, comes with each new seal group. This publication has special handling and installation instructions for the new seal group.
