SERVICE MAGAZINE, JUNE 25, 1984, PAGE 2, THE ARTICLE "COPPER SEALS AVAILABLE FOR JIC (JOINT INDUSTRY CONFERENCE) FITTINGS". In the chart, change the 8.6 mm (.34") dimension to read 11.9 mm (.47"). Change the 11.4 mm (.45") dimension to read 16.5 mm (.65"). Change the 14.2 mm (.56") dimension to read 19.3 mm (.76")

--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------

Copper seals are now available to repair leaking joints between JIC fittings. Formerly, if a JIC connection leaked and slight additional tightening would not stop the leak, the leaking components had to be replaced. Now, cone shaped soft copper seals are available to fit between the sealing surfaces of the connection. When the connection is tightened, the soft copper seal deforms and fills scratches or nicks which can cause a leak.

To determine the size of the seal that is needed, find diameter A as shown in Illustration 2. Then use the chart to find the correct seal part number for diameter A. After the copper seal is installed, tighten the JIC connection to the torque shown in the chart.
