Description of Change: Changes have been made to the parts that are used in the assembly of the first gear for the planetary carrier of the transmission. The 108-2896 Slinger is now fastened to the 108-2227 Planetary Carrier by using 031-4630 Locking Bolts and 1T-0738 Washers in place of the former 6P-5724 Locks and 0S-1617 Bolts. The 6P-5724 Locks are no longer used. The bolts are now retained by a locking patch for the threads.
The 108-2895 Manifold has been modified in order to increase the clearance between the manifold and the 031-4630 Locking Bolt. Use of the flat washers reduces the possibility of the 108-2896 Slinger from deforming when the bolts are torqued. This results in improved sealing between the 108-2896 Slinger, the 6Y-8864 Gasket and the 108-2227 Planetary Carrier.

Adaptable To: The changes are effective with transmissions (S/N: 1AY6257-UP) and (S/N: 7WY1448-UP). The new changes are adaptable to first production of the machines that are listed using 106-6452 Transmissions with serial numbers of (S/N: 1AY) and (S/N: 1RY). The new changes are also adaptable to first production of the machines that are listed using 173-1870 Transmissions with serial numbers of (S/N: 1AY) and (S/N: 7WY).
Installation Procedure
The basic assembly procedure for the carrier is unchanged with the following exceptions.
The 108-2896 Slinger is fastened to the 108-2227 Planetary Carrier by using eight 031-4630 Bolts and eight 1T-0738 Washers. The 6P-5724 Locks and the 0S-1617 Bolts are no longer used. The 0S-1617 Bolts may be used in place of the 031-4630 Bolts if 9S-3263 Thread Lock Compound is used during installation.
Before assembly, the slinger should be checked for flatness. Place the slinger onto the carrier without the gasket. A 0.5 mm (.02 inch) feeler gauge should not fit under the slinger at any position between the slinger and the carrier when the feeler gauge is inserted from the outside. If the slinger is not flat, the slinger should be repaired or a new slinger should be used.
Note: Transmissions with serial numbers (S/N: 1AY6201-6256) and (S/N: 7WY1333, 1334 and 1336-UP) used silicone sealant in place of the 6Y-8864 Gasket. The silicone sealant should be cleaned from the surfaces and a new 6Y-8864 Gasket should be used during assembly.

The 1T-0738 Washers are thicker than the 6P-5724 Locks. This difference in thickness may cause the heads of the 031-4630 Locking Bolts to lightly contact the surface of the 108-2895 Manifold. The depth of the bore for the slinger has been increased to 9 mm (.35 inch) (B) on newer manifolds in order to add clearance. The depth of the bore for the slinger on older manifolds was only 8 mm (.31 inch). Older manifolds may be reused if the clearance is checked. A 0.25 mm (.0098 inch) feeler gauge should pass between the bolt heads and the manifold (A). The bolt heads may be ground for clearance, if necessary. Removal of the markings on the head of the bolts should be adequate for clearance. Remove the bolts before grinding in order to prevent contamination of the transmission components.
