NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Drain the oil from the engine oil filter base into a suitable container for storage or for disposal.

  2. Remove the engine oil pressure sensor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pressure Sensor - Remove and Install".

  3. Use Tooling (A) in order to remove engine oil filter (5).

  4. Remove bolts (3).

  5. Remove engine oil filter base (2) from the cylinder block. Remove gasket (1).

  6. If necessary, remove connector (6) from engine oil filter base (2). Remove the O-ring seal and plug (4) from engine oil filter base (2).

  1. Clean the mating surfaces of the cylinder block and engine oil filter base (2).

    Note: Do Not use sealants on gasket (1).

  2. Position gasket (1) and engine oil filter base (2) on the cylinder block. Install bolts (3) in order to secure engine oil filter base (2).

  3. If necessary, install connector (6) to engine oil filter base (2). Apply Tooling (B) to the first 7.5 ± 1.5 mm (0.30 ± 0.06 inch) of threads at the base end of connector (6).

  4. Install the O-ring seal and plug (4) on engine oil filter base (2). Tighten plug (4) to a torque of 12 N·m (9 lb ft).

  5. Use Tooling (A) in order to install engine oil filter (5).

  6. Install the engine oil pressure sensor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pressure Sensor - Remove and Install".

  7. Fill the engine with engine oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Refill Capacities".
