The CAT 270 air compressor has two cylinders. The flange mounted air compressor utilizes a main bearing that is a sleeve bearing in the front and a ball bearing in the rear. The unit is design with a crankshaft that is one piece. The pistons are made from cast iron that is a high grade. Each piston has three compression rings above the pin and a three-piece chrome plated oil ring below. Nylon buttons are used at both ends of the piston pin in order to retain the floating pin. The main bearings for the connecting rods are a replaceable insert.
All valves and components are installed within the aluminum head. The design utilizes a unique design of the reed in order to maximize efficiency of the air compressor and cooling. The components for the unloader are installed in the top of the head. The inlet and the exhaust valves are installed in the bottom of the head on the reed plate.
The governor can be mounted on top of the head or the governor can be mounted remotely.
