- Inspect all metal parts for cracks, burrs, damaged threads, or other damage. Use a crocus cloth in order to remove scratches, nicks, and light scoring from the metal parts. Replace all O-rings, backup rings, teflon piston rings, and V-ring seals. Coat all internal parts with clean hydraulic oil.
- Install V-ring seal (7) and the backup rings on piston (11) . Install two teflon piston rings (6) and (8) on the piston.
- Install piston (11) into the accumulator with the hollow side of the piston toward the gas end of the accumulator. Use a suitable hammer and a wood block in order to install the piston 50.8 mm (2.0 inch) below the start of the bore.
Note: Do not damage the V-ring seal during installation of the piston. Install the piston slowly.
- Install a new backup ring and O-ring seal (9) onto end cap (10) . Install end cap (10) into the accumulator. Tighten end cap (10) to a torque of 220 N·m (162 lb ft).
Note: Do not damage the O-ring seal on the threads during installation of the end cap. Extreme tightness of the end cap is not required because the O-ring seal is not dependent upon the tightness of the end cap.
- Install a new backup ring and O-ring seal (5) onto end cap (4) . Install end cap (4) into the accumulator. Tighten end cap (4) to a torque of 220 N·m (162 lb ft).
- Install the O-ring seal to elbow assembly (2) . Install elbow assembly (3) into end cap (4) . Install valve assembly (3) .
- Charge the ride control accumulator. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, RENR2171-12, "Ride Control Accumulator -Test and Charge" for the correct charging procedure.
End By: Install the ride control accumulator. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Ride Control Accumulator - Install".
