Correction to Pump Drive (Front) {3108}

Service Manual Module, RENR2512, "Specifications, 994D Wheel Loader Hydraulic System", "Pump Drive (Front)". This module is part of Service Manual, RENR2500.

Reference: Service Magazine, SEPD0530, 26 June 2000, "Correction to the Specification for Setting the Bearing End Play on the Front Pump Drive".

The procedure for setting the bearing end play on the front pump drive should be changed to the following steps.

  1. Assemble the bearings and the gears.

  1. Remove the seal from bearing cages (2), (4), and (6). Install bearing cages (2), (4), and (6) .

  1. Torque two bolts (3), that are 180 degrees from each other, on the bearing cages (2) and (6) to 34 N·m (25 lb ft). Alternately tighten the bolts until the desired torque is reached.

  1. Torque two pairs of bolts (5), that are 180 degrees from each other, on bearing cage (4) to 34 N·m (25 lb ft). Alternately tighten the bolts until the desired torque is reached.

  1. Rotate the input shaft by one revolution.

  1. Repeat Steps 3 through 5 until the torque of each bolt stabilizes.

  1. Loosen bolts (3) and (5). Rotate the input shaft.

  1. Torque two pairs of bolts (3), that are 180 degrees from each other, on the bearing cages (2) and (6) to 3.4 N·m (30 lb in). Alternately tighten the bolts until the desired torque is reached.

  1. Torque two pairs of bolts (5), that are 180 degrees from each other, on the bearing cage (4) to 3.4 N·m (30 lb in). Alternately tighten the bolts until the desired torque is reached.

  1. Rotate the input shaft by three revolutions.

  1. Repeat Steps 8 through 10 until the torque of each bolt stabilizes.

  1. Use a standard feeler gauge to measure the gap between the housing and cages (2), (4), and (6). Measure the gap at two points that are 180 degrees from each other. Determine the average gap for each cage.

  1. Remove the bolts and the cages.

  1. Add shim packs into gaps (15), (19), and (20) that are equal to 0.15 mm (.006 inch) plus the average gap for each cage that was found in Step 12.

  1. Install the seals onto the cages. Install the cages and the shim packs into the housing. Tighten all of the bolts to a torque of 100 ± 20 N·m (75 ± 15 lb ft).

  1. The end play should be 0.05 ± 0.05 mm (.002 ± .002 inch).
