This Special Instruction contains information and procedures for Caterpillar Replacement Thread Inserts. Master kits, repair kits, and refill kits are included in this Special Instruction.

Information in this Special Instruction is adaptable to the 9S-3500 Insert Repair Kit for standard fine thread and the 9S-3700 Insert Repair Kit for standard coarse thread. This Special Instruction also includes information for the 247-9662 Insert Repair Kit for thread size M6-M12 and the 247-9663 Insert Repair Kit for thread size M6-M24.

- Use drill (1) in order to drill out the old threads. Refer to table 2 for the proper drill size that corresponds with the correct thread insert.
- Use tap (2) in order to tap the new threads. Refer to table 2 for the proper size of tap that corresponds with the correct thread insert.

- Use drill (5) in order to drill out thread insert (3). Refer to table 3 for the appropriate drill size .

- Remove any debris from the threaded hole after removing the old thread insert.
