Removal Procedure
Start By:
- Connect the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect" for the machine that is being serviced.

NOTICE |
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |

At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure. Steam can cause personal injury. Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure. Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to prevent personal injury. |

Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact skin. |

Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires, and on all tubes for installation purposes. Cap all lines, all hoses, and all tubes and plug all lines, all hoses, and all tubes. This will help to prevent fluid loss and this will help to keep contaminants from entering the system.
- Drain the coolant from the radiator into a suitable container. The capacity of the cooling system is 135 L (35 US gal).
- Drain the oil from the transmission in a suitable container. The capacity of the transmission is 380 L (100 US gal).

- Remove the left side engine panel (1) .
- Open access door (2) in order to access the transmission oil cooler.

- Remove four bolts (3) and cover (4) .

- Disconnect hose assemblies (6) .

- Remove four bolts (12) and elbow (14) .
- Remove gasket (13) .

- Attach a suitable hoist and lifting slings to transmission oil cooler (10), as shown.

- Remove four bolts (17) .
- Use the hoist in order to carefully remove transmission oil cooler (10). The weight of transmission oil cooler (10) is 43 kg (95 lb).

- Remove elbow (18) and bolt (19) .
