This diagnostic code is caused by abnormal communications between the implement ECM and the engine ECM through the CAT data link. The update rate is not correct. Check if a diagnostic code that is related to the data link of the VIDS, the Power Train or the Engine ECM is present. If a diagnostic code is present, correct the related diagnostic code.
The CAT data link is an input and output of all electronic control modules. The data link is designed to carry communications between the electronic control module and the service tool. The data link is not a visible component. The data link consists of internal control circuits and the connecting harness wiring.
System Response:
The machine response is listed:
- A possible loss of the AUTO pitch function
- A possible loss of the AUTO spread function
- A possible loss of the AUTO return function
- A possible loss of the AUTO stow function
Test Step 1. CHECK THE BATTERY VOLTAGE AT THE ECM.
- Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
- Disconnect the machine harness connector J2from the implement ECM.
- Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
- Ensure that the implement ECM is receiving the correct power at the following J2 connector contacts: J1-58, J2-1, J2-70, J2-23, J2-47 and J2-57.
Expected Result:
The voltage should be between 18 DCV and 32.5 DCV.
Results:
- OK - The voltage measurement is between 18 DCV and 32.5 DCV. Proceed to test step 2.
- NOT OK - The voltage measurement is not between 18 DCV and 32.5 DCV.
Repair: Repair the cause of the incorrect voltage. If the cause of the diagnostic code remains active, exit this procedure and perform this procedure again.

Test Step 2. CHECK THE SOFTWARE PART NUMBERS.
- Verify that the part numbers of the software for the implement ECM is correct.
Note: Consult the Business Unit that is producing the product for the correct part numbers.
Expected Result:
The part numbers for the software are correct.
Results:
- OK - The part numbers for the software are correct. Proceed to test step 3.
- NOT OK - The part numbers for the software are NOT correct.
Repair: Install the correct software. If any electronic control modules have been replaced, ensure that the correct part number was used. If conditions are not resolved, continue to the next test step. Otherwise, exit this procedure.
Proceed to test step 3.
Test Step 3. CHECK THE CAT DATA LINK FOR A SHORT TO GROUND.
- The disconnect switch and the key start switch remain in the OFF position.
- Inspect the machine harness connectors that are related to the circuits of the CAT data link. Ensure that the connector contacts are clean and mated properly.
- Disconnect the machine harness from all electronic control modules.
- At the machine harness connector for the implement ECM, measure the resistance between the connector contact J1-7 (wire 892-BR) and contact J1-8 (wire 893-GN).
Expected Result:
The resistance should be greater than 5000 ohms.
Results:
- OK - The resistance measurement is correct. Proceed to test step 4.
- NOT OK - The resistance measurement is not correct. There is a short in the machine harness.
Repair: There is a short between contact J1-7 (wire 892-BR) or contact J1-8 (wire 893-GN). Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness. If conditions are not resolved, continue to the next test step. Otherwise, exit this procedure.
Proceed to test step 4.
Test Step 4. CHECK THE CAT DATA LINK FOR A SHORT.
- The key start switch remains in the OFF position.
- All related electronic control modules remain disconnected from the machine harness.
- At the machine harness connector for the implement ECM, measure the resistance between contacts J1-7 (wire 892-BR), J1-8 (wire 893-GN) and all other J1 and J2 connector contacts of the implement ECM.
Expected Result:
The resistance should be greater than 5000 ohms.
Results:
- OK - The machine harness is correct. Proceed to test step 5.
- NOT OK - The resistance is not correct. There is a short in the machine harness.
Repair: The short is between the circuit with the resistance that is less than 5000 ohms and connector contact J1-7 (wire 892-BR) or contact J1-8 (wire 893-GN). Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness. If conditions are not resolved, continue to the next test step. Otherwise, exit this procedure.
Proceed to test step 5.
Test Step 5. CHECK THE DATA LINK FOR AN OPEN CIRCUIT.
- The disconnect switch and the key start switch remain in the OFF position.
- All related electronic control modules remain disconnected from the machine harness.
- At the implement ECM, measure the resistance from contact J1-7 (wire 892-BR) to the corresponding contact of each ECM.
- Contact for the Power Train ECM J1-6 (wire 892-BR)
- Contact for the Engine ECM J1-3 (wire 892-BR)
- Contact for the VIDS J1-6 (wire 892-BR)
- Contact for the Power Train ECM J1-6 (wire 892-BR)
- At the implement ECM, measure the resistance from contact J1-8 (wire 893-GN) to the corresponding contact of each ECM.
- Contact for the Power Train ECM J1-7 (wire 893-GN)
- Contact for the Engine ECM J1-9 (wire 893-GN)
- Contact for the VIDS J1-7(wire 893-GN)
- Contact for the Power Train ECM J1-7 (wire 893-GN)
Expected Result:
There should be less than 5 ohms resistance for each measurement.
Results:
- OK - The resistance is correct. The circuit of the data link is correct.
Repair: It is unlikely that the ECM has failed. Exit this procedure and perform this procedure again. If the cause of the diagnostic code has not been found, replace the ECM. See Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace".
STOP
- NOT OK - The resistance is greater than 5 ohms in one or more wires.
Repair: There is an open in the machine harness. The open is in the wire 892-BR or the open is in wire 893-GN. Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness. If the conditions are not resolved exit this procedure and perform this procedure again. If the cause of the diagnostic code is not found, replace the ECM. See Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace".
