Block Diagram Of The CAT Data Link |
The CAT data link is an input of the ECM and an output of the implement ECM. The data link is designed to communicate with service tools and other electronic control modules on the machine. The data link is bidirectional. The implement ECM will input information and the implement ECM will output information. The data link is not a visible component. The data link consists of the following components:
- Internal ECM circuits
- Related harness wiring
- A service tool connector
The CAT data link connects to J1-7 and J1-8 of the ECM. Large amounts of information is available on the CAT data link. The following electronic control modules require the use of certain data that is being sent over the CAT data link: implement ECM, power train ECM, engine ECM and VIDS ECM. Some of the shared information is listed:
- The implement ECM receives commands from the VIDS ECM via the keypad in order to change operating modes.
- Commands are also received in order to read diagnostic codes that are stored in the memory of the implement ECM.
- The implement ECM receives certain status information about the hydraulics from the VIDS ECM.
- The implement ECM sends information concerning the condition of the Implement Electronic Control System to the VIDS ECM. The VIDS alerts the operator about the condition by displaying a corresponding message on the message center.
- The implement ECM sends the status of the AUTO pitch and the status of the blade float to the VIDS ECM. The VIDS informs the operator about the condition by displaying a corresponding message on the message center of the VIDS.
Note: All of the electronic control modules that use the CAT data link are identified with a module identifier (MID). The numbers of the MID are listed:
Implement Electronic Control System ... 082
Power Train Electronic Control System ... 113
Vital Information Display System ... 051
Engine Electronic Control ... 036
