Heater Coil - Remove and Install

Usage:

525 1DN

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the right fan motor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fan Motor (Air Conditioner and Heater) - Remove and Install" for the machine that is being serviced.


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


------ WARNING! ------

At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure.

Steam can cause personal injury.

Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure.

Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.

  1. Remove the radiator filler cap slowly in order to relieve system pressure.

  1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal. The capacity of the cooling system is 36 L (9.5 US gal). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU6471, "Cooling System Coolant (DEAC) - Change" or Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU6471, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change" for the correct procedure.

  1. Open door (1) .

  1. Remove the filter element that is located behind door (1) .

  1. Loosen two hose clamps (2) from heater coil (3) .

  1. Disconnect drain hose (4) .

  1. Remove bolts (5), the washers, and angles (6) .

  1. Disconnect drain hose (8) from pan (7) .

  1. Remove pan (7) from the machine.

  1. Remove bolt (9) from both sides of the heater coil. Remove the heater coil from the machine.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the heater coil to the machine. Install bolt (9) to both sides of the heater coil.

  1. Install pan (7) under the heater coil.

  1. Install bolts (5), angles (6), and the washers.

  1. Connect drain hose (8) to pan (7) .

  1. Connect drain hose (4) .

  1. Tighten two hose clamps (2) on heater coil (3) .

  1. Install the filter element behind door (1) .

  1. Close door (1) .

  1. Fill the cooling system with clean coolant. The capacity of the cooling system is 36 L (9.5 US gal). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU6471, "Cooling System Coolant (DEAC) - Change" or Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU6471, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change" for the correct procedure.

End By: Install the right fan motor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fan Motor (Air Conditioner and Heater) - Remove and Install" for the machine that is being serviced.
