Visual Inspection

Usage:

611 6SZ
In order to properly troubleshoot a problem, first perform the visual checks. Put the parking brakes ON. Place the bowl and the apron in the lowered position. Do the following visual checks.

  1. Check the oil level in the differential.

  1. Check the oil level in the output transfer gear case.

  1. Check all the oil lines, hoses and connections for leaks or damages.

  1. Check all external valves for leaks or damages.

  1. Check for oil on the ground under the machine.

  1. Check the transmission control linkage for damage and adjustment.

  1. Inspect the transmission oil filter, the magnetic screen and the suction screen.

Remove some of the oil from the housing of the transmission oil filter. Remove the filter. Cut apart the filter and inspect the filter element for foreign materials. Also, inspect the scavenge screen and the magnetic screen in the transfer gear case for the transmission. A magnet separates the ferrous particles from the nonferrous particles.

This is a list of some of the particles that may be found in the filter element.

    • Aluminum particles give the indication of torque converter failure.

    • Bronze particles give the indication of worn clutches in transmission.

    • Rubber particles give the indication of rubber seal or hose failure.

    • Shiny steel particles give the indication of pump failure.

    • Iron or steel chips give the indication of broken components in transmission or transfer gears.

If any of the above particles are found, all components of the transmission hydraulic system must be cleaned. Do not use any damaged parts. Damaged parts must be removed and new parts must be installed.
